New Gray Zone Warfare update sees player count skyrocket, reviews now at mixed

Realistic military shooter Gray Zone Warfare's Winds of War update has given it a much needed boost, its player count and reviews rocketing.

Gray Zone Warfare did not have the greatest of launches. This online-only realistic military shooter was plagued by server issues, stuttering and other problems that, in turn, led to some seriously negative reviews. However, developer Madfinger Games is turning things around with the game's Winds of War update, and its player count has absolutely skyrocketed.

Despite Winds of War update, which dropped a few days ago.

Winds of War gives the game a huge boost, adding a dynamic weather system, 60 new locations, a new mission type, new weapons, combat outposts and, perhaps most importantly, it makes it easier to distinguish foe from faction-based friend. No one wants to be known for friendly fire.

On top of that, the whole in-game economy has been rebalanced, and the rewards should, according to developer Madfinger Games, feel more meaningful. The massive increase in concurrent players suggests that Madfinger is on the right track.

But that's not all. Gray Zone Warfare's reviews have also seen a serious improvement. Recent reviews are mostly positive and its current rating is mixed, a serious improvement from mostly negative. Recent reviews level praise at the Winds of War update, though a few still mention performance issues. With a little more work, Escape from Tarkov could really have something to worry about.
